Agreed, it is important to have realistic goals because they are plenty more achieveable to reach. Especially when starting off in exercising. way to many people get put off because they set the bar to high to early, then get disheartened and give up!

I say gradual process is better than nothing, and you will have to work for it to get any good results but that makes it the more exciting and fulfilling.

Good post,

Great post! You must have realistic goals especially from the beginning. Many people get disappointed when the results don't come overnight.

If you're on diet it is even essential to step on a scale, actually, every day. This way you can correct amount of calories etc. Some people can say it's way too often, but it can help you learn your body's reaction on various food etc.

With the world being the way it is now, I am not surprised. Skinny is better to most women, even if that does mean they are underweight. It is so sad that some women feel this way.

My god.. During our school days, it was considered bad manners to chew something in front of guru. I read somewhere that it is good considered as it makes your stomach feels that something is coming on its way and there is nothing.
Thank you for your wonderful post.

It's always great to read blogs like this because sometimes they are the best source of good fitness tips. After all, the best workouts won't do any good if there isn't any dietary control. Thanks for the tip!

Those are some really sad statistics. But as long as you're alive it's not too late to make a change and get healthy.

As for portion sizes - I ALWAYS leave the restaurant with a doggy bag. I eat about half of what is on the plate and am stuffed.

Great article on breast cancer & nutrition tips. I just finished reading a book called the China Study for the second time. It goes a little more in depth with some of the nutrition tips you have discussed. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to find out how healthy eating can reduce your risk of cancer. Fitness Love. T Train

You've put so much informative content and great advice in this post! As a grad student who works in campus recreation at my state university, I especially appreciated #5 on your list.

The professional staff, graduate assistants, and student staff in my department tend to be health and fitness conscious. Most of us chose to work in campus rec because we're passionate about fitness, wellness, and recreational sports, but it also helps us stay motivated to work out when we have to walk past the fitness center 10 times a day!

I would definitely recommend looking for a job in your campus recreation center to help keep you motivated to stay active and make healthy lifestyle choices.

What about certain people who have had it since they were small little girls!? I did not even know what it was called then (70's) but I once remember someone saying "what is that stuff on the back of your legs". At age 10, I just replied "I don't know" and it was true, I didn't know . . . then. But I eventually heard someone talk about it on a show once or read about it in a magazine and needless to say I was devestated when what I had was called "ugly fatty deposits!" I have not worn shorts since! I exercise for 1-2 hours every single day of my life and have gained and lost 5-10 lbs over the years and I eat extremely clean, I mean nothing but lean protein and complex carbs but "it" has never gotten any better. I keep my calories relatively low 800-1,000 calories per day, even too low according to my height and activity level. I even went to the extremes of being anorexic for a few years and looked like death but the stuff was still there!!!! I think I was actually born with it! Right now I've started running again, at least if I have to have "it" I figure I might as well get toned cellulite . . . if there is such a thing! What do you think? Should I just resign myself to having it till I die or is there a chance I can wear shorts or God forbid even a swim suite once before I die. I'm already 45 and I know my metabolisim has slowed down but like I said, I've been battling this stuff since I was very very young.

Kicking-off a healthy breakfast habit with something as easy (and pleasurable) as munching on a strawberry pop tart IS better than having no breakfast at all. Foregoing breakfast messes-up our metabolism and even leads to loss of muscle.

These tips are great. I am currently in college and during my freshman year I gained the dreaded "freshman 15." When i went home this summer i realized how much bigger I truly looked. I was disgusted. Starting in July I really buckled down and went on a low-cal diet with moderate exercise. I lost the fifteen pounds in a little over a month with basically just dieting! I would walk for 20 minutes at night and thats about it. Now that I am back at school I am always looking for new tips and tricks to keep me staying thin. The eating breakfast tip I have found to be the most important. I only have enough time for a 90 cal special k bar in the morning but it is just enough to hold me over until 1:00 when I have time for a yogurt and a cup of delicious fruit. I also go to the gym for about an hour 5 days a week taking 2 days a week off to relax. I do know that I need to start lifting weights and getting "toned" But thank you for this post It really brought a smile to my face that us college kids aren't being left out in the fitness world!
