Lunch at Beck’s Prime

Today I had lunch with a friend at Beck’s Prime Restaurant at Memorial Park and had a wonderful experience.

Before I saw the menu, I was wondering what was I going to order at a restaurant with such a name, thinking they were only going to have typical Texan dishes such as BBQ, steaks and oversized potatoes loaded with beef and cheese.  But much to my surprise, Beck’s Prime has several healthy options that are absolutely delicious, such as the Ahi Tuna Sandwich, Mediterranean Salad and Veggie Burger.

I ordered the Veggie Burger and was disappointed to hear the side dish was a large amount of french fries (this doesn’t make sense).  I asked the waitress what I could get as a substitute, and she recommeded the mesquite grilled veggies.  I said “cool,” get them for me, please.”

The veggie burger was one of the best I’ve ever had and the mesquite grilled veggies were beyond excellent.  The seasoning on both items was unique (kinda Cajun) and tasted fabulous.  When I finished the meal, I had a feeling of being satisfied.  Not too full, but not leaving the restaurant desiring to eat more.  I am sure if I ate a hamburger of comparable size I would have the feeling like there’s a “bowling ball in my stomach.”

The atmosphere is great too.  Located in the middle of Memorial Park (the nicest park in Houston by far) at the golf course, you have a feeling of tranquility with beautiful trees and landscaping.  It’s amazing just to think it’s only about 10 minutes from downtown Houston.
