You just can’t beat the basic push-up for a great upper body exercise (chest, shoulders, triceps) that also challenges your core.  No equipment needed.  Just your own body weight, so you can do them just about anywhere.  Best of all, there are almost endless ways to continue to progress the push-up and make it more challenging as you become more fit.
